What?
FSAE rules require a rear-facing brake light mounted in a specific location and orientation on the vehicle
The '26 brake light was too flexible and would bow in the middle, requiring a rigid mount to keep it flat and rules-compliant
Previous year's mount was overbuilt, carrying unnecessary mass

How?
Measured brake light dimensions and designed the mount slightly oversized to ensure proper fit and clearance
Optimized for DFMA by accounting for the minimum width a waterjet could cut and ensuring that there was clearance when installing the mount
Created a DXF and waterjet the part from aluminum sheet metal, which was then attached to the motor mounts via 2 screws

Results?
Achieved 83% mass reduction over the previous year's design and passed FSAE technical inspection with full rules compliance
